Ohhh … look: shiny.
I’m quite ADHD.
For me, distractions are a common challenge at home and work, from noisy environments and emails to endless digital interruptions and the ever-present temptation to check social media.
Despite their pervasiveness, over time I’ve learned to regain focus and boost my productivity with a handful of practical strategies. Here are a few ideas that might help you:
1. Create a focused environment
Organize your workspace to minimize distractions.
Silence notifications and use website blockers.
Designate a specific area for work to enhance focus.
2. Prioritize and plan
Break down tasks into manageable steps.
Allocate dedicated work times and breaks.
Employ productivity apps like Trello or Google Calendar.
3. Practice mindfulness
Regularly focus on your breath to improve concentration.
Recognize and address your internal distractions.
Focus on one task at a time to boost efficiency.
4. Set boundaries
Let others know your work hours.
Share workload to reduce personal distractions.
Silence notifications during key work periods.
5. Take care of yourself
Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep.
Boost cognitive function and reduce stress.
Schedule times to disconnect from screens.
Avoid overloading yourself with tasks.
Reward progress and achievements.
6. Seek accountability and experiment
Share goals with someone to stay motivated.
Try methods like Pomodoro or time blocking.
None of this has been easy.
But, by reducing distractions I’ve learned to create an environment that works for me.
Perhaps some of these tips will work for you.
As always, thanks for reading.
