I set out, full of enthusiasm and vigor back in 2010.

I bought a domain name. I set up WordPress. And I was going to change the world.

I was going to make a gajillion dollars. Fame awaited me!

Except, none of that happened.

Although I was writing and publishing a weekly newsletter, my publication lacked clarity, structure, and focus. I had no clear idea of who I was writing for, I had no clear purpose, and there was no reason why anyone would listen to me.

After six months I was fed up, burned out, and utterly demoralized.

Why? Because I had:

  1. no proper plan,

  2. no clear idea of what I was doing or who I wanted to help,

  3. no sound foundation on which to start creating and publishing content.

Totally dejected, I shelved the whole idea, stopped sending out my newsletter, and what’s worse, I stopped writing. I buried myself in my job and spent the next few years feeling sorry for myself because I couldn’t admit I had no clue what I was doing.

But by going through all that time beating myself up, I learned a valuable lesson:

my experience could be a valuable example to others of what not to do!

The simple truth is that there’s no reason to create something new every day. Putting yourself under that sort of pressure is a fool’s errand. I know because I’ve been there.
